Core Values for Emmanuel Christian Centre, Ulverston
Worship Our aim is to worship God in Spirit and in Truth, which is much more than the songs we sing on Sunday. In essence our worship is a complete lifestyle of devotion and adoration to God which is outworked in an attitude of obedience in every part of our lives. Our lifestyle should reflect the Truth of our love for God as we devote ourselves to Him by submitting to His will and living in the Spirit. [Rom 12:1, John 4:23-24, Ecc 12:13, Amos 5:23-24]
Unity The church doesn’t need masses of people, it needs unity! Unity is found in Christ as we move as one body under His Lordship. Each part of the body is to be united with Christ the Head and we should be able to depend on one another as the Lord leads. When each individual functions where God places them, we move as one in the Spirit, developing a powerful, corporate anointing. As part of the same body, unity is something we strive for- to love our neighbours like our very own selves. This is underpinned with the promise that where there is unity, God commands the blessing. [1 Cor 12:18, Psa 133, John 15:4]
Evangelistic Integrity The message of the gospel is more than just a moving, evangelistic oratory which cannot be limited to simply a salvation message. The gospel is most authentically portrayed in the lives of those who have submitted to God’s will and who have been transformed by His grace. As God directs we must share our belief with those around us however, what we believe should be proved by the way we live! It is therefore by our words and deeds that we aim to bring others into harmony with Christ. [2 Cor 5:18, Jam 2:22-26]
Maturity After becoming born of God, the Christian life is a constant journey of growth towards maturity in the faith. The standard of maturity that we must accept from the Bible is the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. This is our vision and the standard we all must yield to. As we continue to become acquainted with Christ by learning to hear His voice, we stay connected with Him so that old things will pass away and all things will become new. When the old carnal things pass away we do not stay as babies but become spiritual, mature sons and daughters of the living God. [Col 1:28, Eph 4:13, 1 Cor 3:1-3]
Biblical Authority The Bible gives clear instructions for our workplaces, homes and churches with regard to God’s authority structure. Authority is given to be a blessing and each of us has a responsibility to submit to those who watch for our souls, knowing that they will give an account to God. For any authority to be a blessing we are to keep an attitude of submission so that they may lead with joy. Christ is the true, perfect Authority and all other authority simply represents Him. This doesn’t mean our earthly authorities are perfect but simply that they are in place to serve God and wear His uniform. [Eph 5:23, Eph 6:5-9, Heb 13:17, 1 Pe 2:13-18]
